Subject: A Little Nostalgia

Hello Fellow Former AFTACer!

As you know, Lowry AFB was closed a number of years ago.
I did a little driving tour out there today and shot a few pictures.
Here are a few.

The West 6th Avenue gate is now a divided boulevard, with no guard shack!

Here's the old 'schoolhouse', Building 359.  It is once again a schoolhouse, a private
school for kindergarten through 8th grade.  When I told these two young fellas that
I had gone to school there in the Air Force 30 years ago, they said, "We heard this
was a spy school!"  I told them that it was all very classified, that's why there were
no windows.  (There are now).

The old admin building #358 next door has fallen on hard times, it is no longer in use.

The old base admin building #349 is now being converted into lofts!

Not a very good picture, but I'm looking north from the intersection at 6th avenue
toward where the 3420 squadron used to be.  Nothing is left of any of our barracks,
the NCO club, Contrail Club or the large mess hall.

I believe the building in the distance was the commissary.

Here's the old powerhouse, which is behind building 358:

Many of us new students had our first beers off base at a little 3.2 bar which was in this
little strip just north of the gate on Quebec.  It is being renovated at this time:

And here's how the old schoolhouse is decorated now!

Hope you enjoyed this little tour as much as I did putting it together!
