The ceremony is complete - LtCol. Denbleyker, TOD Commander, and MSgt Perez, 1stSgt, stand in front of the TOD shield (logo) on the wall behind them. Perhaps the last photo taken at TOD?! The ceremony was short, but very poignant. A lot of the Alumni (and maybe some others as well) welled up a bit at the playing of the National Anthem that started the ceremony. All of us stood proud while Capt Franceschi read a prepared statement and a document received from President Clinton acknowledging the great accomplishments made by our outfit, the critical roll we all played in our national security and our roll in bringing the cold war to a close.
Some, if not most, of us welled up again, when the TOD colors were being sheathed for the final time, and lastly during some of the remarks made by the Commander regarding the honorable history of the WFO/1155th/TOD outfit that was being brought to a final close.
I am sad but proud to have been able to attend this ceremony. I am even more proud to have been a part of this wonderful outfit, to have worked with and been associated with such a great group of professionals. May God take good care of all of those who have been a part of 'our' outfit. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
Bob Fitzgerald, MSgt, Ret.
